Brutal desert workout

Posted by: sho In: Outdoors

So every other Wednesday, my phone alarm thinks I still have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get my butt to work when, really, it’s my day off. I’ve been dying to get my mountain bike out for a spin for the last month but never got the momentum to do it. I finally get there at around 7am and these out of towners ask me about the trail. I tell them how it goes and totally forget about the trail on the south side of Blue Diamond (which is more difficult and the way they ended up going).

I’m feeling pretty good as I usually start off. I met this guy who was out there like me and he had the clip-in shoes and recommended I get a helmet, which is on my to-do list. As I make my way back from the far end of the figure-8, the ascent begins to kill the buzz I was digging. I end up walking my bike for a good half-mile. Now I didn’t get the feeling I was going to throw up like previous times, but I did get the feeling I’m out of shape a good bit. Other things I want to tackle is that 13-mile loop in Red Rock and this man-made path in Henderson that goes on forever. We shall see as any type of activity will now need to be done in the early morning as afternoons are heating up.

For some reason, Map My Ride iphone app did not record my whole figure-8, so I’m thinking it’s because it’s not the paid version. Bummer.
